Sweet, crunchy and bright green, sugar snap peas sauteed with garlic are a simple, fun and a delicious way to enjoy vegetables.
Bagged versus not bagged sugar snap peas
Are bagged, sealed and trimmed sugar snap peas any different from non-bagged, untrimmed sugar snap peas? Others’ experience may differ from mine, but they cook differently for me. Bagged sugar snap peas are easier to cook with almost no prep work necessary. Pop them into a skillet with some oil, chopped garlic, salt and pepper over medium heat, and done in 5 minutes – no cover needed.
The non-bagged, untrimmed variety are another story; the recipe card below walks through cooking non-bagged sugar snap peas. There are a few additional contortions, but the final crispy-tender, green state and cooking duration remain the same as bagged sugar snap peas.
How to de-string sugar snap peas
Sugar snap peas can be eaten raw, but a quick stir-fry can eliminate harmful germs, season them and heighten their sweet flavor.
If the sugar snap peas are not pre-trimmed, then trim the ends and de-string both sides of each pod. This takes a bit of time and some luck.
Snap off one end of a pod. If it is attached to a strand on either side of the pod, pull all the way down to remove it. Repeat for the pod’s other end.
